Zakopane is a small town in the Tatras but is the most popular resort in the country. It is located in the valley between the Western Tatras on one side, and the Gubalowka Mountain on the other. You can spend the whole year here. In winter you can ski as much as you want while in summer you can hike the lure of valleys, lakes, streams and waterfalls. This is the place where famous "Zakopane style" cottages have been built since the 16 th c, where the tradition never dies. Lots of inns with highlanders typical food will leave an indelible mark on your stomach: potato pancakes with mushroom sauce, various types of ravioli, sour soup, highlanders tea (surprise! ;-), folk music and dances, do you need more?
We start our visit with climbing the Gubalowka Mountain by a funicular, to see the most beautiful view of the Tatras. Then we visit the oldest church and the cemetery in Zakopane. If we want to be in the centre of the local atmosphere, let us take a walk along Krupowki, the main street lined with inns, cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops. We will have a break for lunch there and some time for shopping. |
